EN: If there's one common thread running through Aston Martin's history, it's that intended goals were often not achieved. Fortunately, we can say a lot about the British, but not that they're not traditional. In good Aston Martin tradition, the relaunch of the illustrious brand name "Lagonda" didn't turn out to be the commercial success hoped for at Gaydon. The initial goal was as clear as it was ambitious: 200 units of the $1 million Taraf had to be built. While the world unanimously agreed that the Lagonda Taraf is an unparalleled limousine with the exclusivity that befits a $1 million price tag, the world was a different place in 2014. Limited editions didn't automatically sell out on the night they were presented, or even long before. Partly because of this, the production run stopped at just 60 units, making this example the only car with a European license plate. In this article, we'll tell you everything about the Lagonda Taraf, from its remarkable first owner to its technical specifications and condition, all the way to the model shown here. Sit back, relax, because the story of the Lagonda Taraf can't be summarized in a few lines.

The Lagonda Taraf began as "Project Comet" in February 2014 at the Gaydon Factory in Warwickshire. To expedite development, the architecture of the Aston Martin Rapide S was chosen as the basis. The body was to be made entirely of carbon fiber. At that time, Aston Martin already had experience developing an extremely limited series in the form of the One-77. Not entirely coincidentally, the lessons learned were crucial. The One-77 was built around a carbon monocoque chassis. The experience gained was used to develop and produce the body and rear of the Taraf. Marek Reichman designed it and created a beautiful and timeless model with clear references to the Aston Martin Lagonda of the 1970s. Taraf stands for "Ultimate Luxury" in Arabic. Production was outsourced to Aston Martin's Q Division. Normally, a test program wouldn't need to be mentioned separately, but the Taraf's test program was truly on a different level than the regular tests a new model must undergo. Literally nothing was left to chance. Aston Martin naturally had to be certain the car met the demands of its most demanding customers. A test program of over 14,000 kilometers was completed in Oman, where it was determined that there were no squeaks or creaks in the interior and the air conditioning remained ice cold.

When the Lagonda Taraf debuted at the Dubai Motor Show in November 2014, it was the world's most expensive four-door limousine. Then-CEO Andy Palmer intended to sell a maximum of 200 units. Initially, 120 in the Middle East and later 80 for the rest of the world. The fact that it ultimately only reached 60 units was largely due to timing, but also definitely to the exorbitant price tag. Production began in 2015 and continued through 2016, and while some reports state that 120 cars were built, Aston Martin itself claims no more than 60. Therefore, we can only conclude that sales figures once again fell short of the forecast. This makes the history of this example all the more interesting.
