Fahrzeugbeschreibung
There are cars that don’t just drive, they seem to dance on the road. The Austin Healey 3000 MK2 is one of them. A symbol of a golden age, it embodies the irresistible charm of British sports cars of the 1960s — a time when passion was measured in thrills rather than numbers.
Produced between 1961 and 1962, the MK2 belongs to the prestigious lineage of ‘Big Healeys’, machines as noble as they are racy. Under the bonnet is a 2.9-litre inline six-cylinder engine developing 132 horsepower, capable of propelling this beauty to 180 km/h. This rare and sought-after model is one of the very first MK2s to be equipped with three SU carburettors, an exclusive configuration that increases its power and value tenfold among connoisseurs.
This Austin Healey was born in July 1961 and left the factory to join a dealership in Düsseldorf. Originally left-hand drive, adorned with elegant Ivory White paintwork and black upholstery, it began its life on the Old Continent before crossing the Atlantic to flourish in the United States. In 2016, it returned to Europe, its continent of origin, and began a new life marked by excellence.
The owner, a passionate perfectionist, entrusted the restoration to JME Healeys in England — a name synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship. From March to November 2020, the car was completely dismantled, every bolt checked, every curve enhanced. The bodywork was completely redone in aluminium, then finished in a sumptuous Aston Martin Racing Green, while the beige upholstery and dark green soft top completed the harmonious look. The original engine, of course, was rebuilt to the specifications of the legendary three SU carburettor versions.
Subtly modernised with a 5-speed gearbox, Unibal ball joints, electric fan and Avon tyres, this Healey now combines the best of both worlds: the spirit of a racing car and the grace of a gentleman’s roadster.
In total, nearly €100,000 has been invested in this masterful restoration, plus approximately €3,000 in maintenance since then.
The total budget, including purchase and restoration, amounts to €197,000.
More than just a car, it is an invitation to dream: to relive, with the wind in your hair, the most beautiful page in British automotive history.
